joke review: this passed the bechdel test (bilbo and gandalf are women to me)

real review: I feel like I've been craving vintage fantasy for a while, this really delivered. Delivered more than if I had actually read the Hobbit, I think.
This was a radio play, not an actual reading of the text. It was also made in the 60s, meaning that all the voice acting, all the music, was done in that very cute old timey way. Kazoos, dude. They scored this with kazoos.
I had a good time! There were moments I wasn't paying so much attention, but that was fine to me. I really rate the voice acting on this, and the sound design. Bring back the radioplay I had a ball in this bitch.

I am specifically reviewing the BBC dramatisation/radio play.

I've tried, unsuccessfully, to read [b:The Hobbit|5907|The Hobbit (The Lord of the Rings, #0)|J.R.R. Tolkien|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1546071216l/5907._SY75_.jpg|1540236] several times. This time I thought I would try an audiobook and this version was available through the library.

Like other reviewers have said, the unfamiliar pronounciations are somewhat distracting. And you need to know the book (or films) to follow along; so much of it is spoken you need to know who is speaking which isn't always clear. It was well paced (though I think I might've listened to it on 1.25 speed by accident), and while it took me about a month to complete, I did listen to it in approx. 3 sessions.

A classic story. I loved re-reading this for the first time as an adult. The BBC dramatization was not my favorite at first, but it began to grow on me. It was also interesting re-reading this after having watched the movies.

This was good for what it was, a dramatization. I would have preferred a true audiobook with full narration of the written book, but I have yet to find one available to me.
