Zombies + Halloween + Scary Houses = yes yes please.

Sadly this one turned out to be utter crap. I really enjoyed the first part and I would have given that part 4 stars, however that one is cut of quite suddenly with a dramatic scene. What happens to the people there? What happens to the girl? We have no clue until the end of the book. *rolls eyes*

Then we have the second part that is about another kid, living in that house. And boy is that kid annoying. Typical teenager stuff, acting tough, acting like he is soooooo awesome. While in reality he is believing and he is scared out of his mind. I really dislike characters like that.
The rest of the cast is also pretty bleh, the only one I was interested in was Grandpa Mo. I wanted to know more about him, and I had some suspicions that were later confirmed.

However, the story in the second part just dragged on and on and on.

Then we have the ending. God, it was perfect if that hadn't happened. Come on, that is just a lame-ass ending and I hated it soooo much. Yeah we survived x and there comes y. Wait what?

So yeah, I wouldn't recommend this one. It is sad, I was really looking forward to this one. New Goosebumps? New scary stories? Yes, yes please! Too bad this one was not meant to be.

(I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review).

"Kenny Manzetti was the new kid in town. His family moved back in to an old house to help take care of his grandfather. Everyone in his new neighborhood is obsessed with zombies--even Grandpa Mo. But then a new family moves in next door and there choice in furniture is...interesting.

Kenny is convinced that there is something strange about the new neighbors but his parents won't listen to him. So Kenny and his friends go in for a closer look. A bad idea on any day but definitely the wrong choice around Halloween. Will Kenny survive long enough to go trick or treating?" (From Amazon)

As a tween I grew up on R.L. Stine's Fear Street and reading Goosebumps to my younger cousins. Reading Zombie Halloween was a little trip down memory lane but with a new tale. Great for any child looking for a little scary and a lot of adventure.

Some of the first books I ever remember reading on my own were by R.L. Stine -- Fear Street and Goosebumps. I particularly remember my favorite Goosebumps book -- one that involved a mad scientist dad who somehow cloned himself into an evil plant, and another in which a boy had a magical camera that could see the future and kill people after capturing their photo. Crazy stuff for a kid, for sure!

So, of course, I couldn't resist when I received an advanced reader's copy of a new Goosebumps title. This one, Zombie Halloween, is first in the Goosebumps Most Wanted Special Edition, which seems to be a little creepier and lengthier than your every day run of the mill Goosebumps story.

In Zombie Halloween, we meet Kevin, a preteen who is fairly new to town -- and who is fairly convinced that his next door neighbors (who were seen moving giant coffins into the home) are actually zombies. To make things even more spooky, Kevin's house is right across from an eerie graveyard -- and there have been more than a few reports that zombies have been seen feeding on human flesh in the graveyard in the darkest hours of night.

As if all of these things weren't scary enough, Kevin's grandfather Mo seems disturbingly fixated on zombies lately, which makes Kevin and his new friends incredibly nervous to be near the graveyard. Are these stories of real life zombie encounters merely fabrications by confused young minds -- or is there something far more haunting behind Grandpa Mo's latest nightmares?

For young readers who are fans of other Goosebumps stories, I'm sure that Zombie Halloween will not disappoint! The story seemed a tad too long and drawn out in some points, which may deter some children from finishing the book, but the action was fairly fast paced and there were plenty of spooky twists and turns (although, I can't deny that all of the false leads at the end of most chapters did get a bit tedious after a while. Like, OMG here comes a scary zombie -- no, wait, that's just the TV -- or the video game -- or my overly active half-way bored imagination!)

I appreciate the opportunity to read and review this book, and for what it is -- an action packed Halloween tale for younger readers, I think this book does a pretty decent job. (And I liked the twist ending, although, duh! -- The kids should have known better!
SpoilerI mean, hello! Everyone knows who REALLY sleeps in coffins!

This very well may be my favorite Goosebumps book I've ever read. The opening was 10/10- the story was fast paced, with a very fun take on Zombies. I loved all of the characters and that, for once, the siblings were not constantly bickering. I might just read this one every Halloween!

I need to ask you, if you ran to your mother and told her that zombies were in you basement would she: a) tell you that the joke was not funny, b) say that you have been watching too many horror movies and violent video games, or c) very calmly say, "I know...the real estate agent warned me," well? Unfortunately for Mario Manzetti, the answer is C. His mother took the house because it as all she could afford and didn't warn her sons, which is where all the problems began...back in 1944. Now it is the present day and Mario is a grandfather. His son's family has moved into the family house with him and his grandson Kenny's favorite video game is "The Walking Zombies." Little does Kenny realize, there may be more zombies in the world than just the ones on his TV screen. I'll leave the rest to your imagination, or to the author's imagination, that is. Zombie Halloween is sure to be another best seller for the master of fright.

I must confess, Goosebumps were not around when I was a kid (although my younger brother and sister both read them). However, I know how incredibly popular they are with my students. So when I saw that a new book was coming soon, I wanted to check it out (a little library humor there). The fact that zombies were the main monsters of the story was also a reason to read it. I love books like World War Z and Rot and Ruin, and I was curious how Stine would approach the subject. He manages to make it scary without being over the top in the gore department.

I read an e-book provided by the publisher through NetGalley.

R. L Stine really upped his game with Zombie Halloween, the first book in the Goosebumps Most Wanted: Special Edition series. It was spectacularly spooky and funny at points, and I absolutely enjoyed a good number of the chapter twists and turns. I remember writing in my review of Welcome to Dead House a while ago that I really think Stine does great when he involves parents and other adult figures, and he does so with this book. Absolutely wonderful!

That ending, though. I kind of expected it, but forgot about it until the end. That was some twist!
