This is such a beautiful book.

Frances and Alex’s relationship was so lovely, it reminded me of my friendship with someone very close to me.

I loved that it focused on them being platonic, with the main romantic pairing being a plot point but not the main focus.

This is a really relatable read. I would have related to it so much when I was 18, to an extent I’m glad I didn’t read it then. Now that I’m recovering from depression, I can see myself in Aled and I can see that I too have a road to recovery available to me.

I’m glad he wasn’t included in Heartstopper (the adaptation) bc he’s too complex a character for a simple cameo. I love him, and I love Frances.

She’s so funny and I understand having a school personality and a friend one. I understand her struggles. This isn’t a 5 star for me, but goddamn this is a fucking fantastic book.

This was my first novel by Alice Oseman (although I've read heartstopper online), and I really liked it!
Something I wasn't really aware of going into the book was that a main part of the plot revolves around things happening online, and a youtube channel called universe city, and if I'm honest, it was my least favourite part. I loved the characters, but I found all the internet drama a bit too overdramatic and although the plot was good, I think I would have enjoyed it more if it was less over-the-top. I also found it a little too fast paced? I think some of the emotional scenes could have done with a little more time, things could feel a little rushed at times, or there was a time-jump which I felt skipped over too much.
The characters were definitely my favourite part, I thought they were all really good.
Some thoughts on the ending:
I think I would have prefered the ending to have been a more low-key scene with just the friends hanging out and recovering and healing and starting to thrive and re-adjust to the new lives they're building for themselves, rather than another dramatic scene with Aled's internet fame being the happy ending, although I did like the way it was done. I was also sort of hoping Aled was going to come out as non-binary at the end, becuase he often mentions how much he relates to radio and feels like he is radio, and radio is agender. Also with the whole hair thing. Again, I'm okay with how it ended, I just would have liked that :)

I was so excited to be able to read more about Aled and get further insight into his life after meeting him in Heartstopper.
I am still really glad I did but I was not ready for the heartbreaking story I just read.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book nonetheless and am happy to have met all these new characters.
I have a lot of things to say about Carol Last but I won’t go too deep because I’m sure you all understand if you’ve read it. It’s just the hair snip. The room rearranging. The dog???!!?! I have never been so angry with a character before.
Also February is such a pretty middle name.
