One of the best books i‘ve read in a while. I love how Oseman gave all the characters their unique space to exist and be present without overloading the storyline. It‘s new, it‘s relevant for future generations, not just LGBTQ+ teens but also those in particular and I hope to see more of those type of stories!! Big recommend from me!!

Hello,
I hope somebody is listening.
I don’t usually write reviews, but I absolutely adore anything Alice Oseman has to offer, and this book was no exception so I thought I might as well say my piece.
I’ll just keep it short.
“Beautifully devastating.”
Maybe a message some people need(ed) to hear.
The depth that Alice is able to give her characters is incredible. It feels like, for a little bit of time, you truly live in this universe (city. Haha.)
Thank you for another memorable read.
Much love 💕

WHEW this book was a time capsule. It was comforting to read about a girl living life within quite a niche side of the internet (2014 tumblr) that i hadn't heard of anyone else mention until now. ALL of the classics: superwholock references, WELCOME TO NIGHTVALE SINGLE HANDEDLY BASCALLY BEING THE BLUEPRINT, tacky random patterned clothing, microlabeling (which is valid slay), etc. The characters were very realistic and well-written. (....I can see why you liked the characters lyd bc they're basically you...) Also THE DIVERSITY SLAYSSS there's literally INTENTIONAL fat rep that doesn't have anything to do with a weight loss story like thank god that is so hard to come by these days also gotta love aspec rep and lesbian rep and general gay people rep amazing amazing. Took off .25 stars because it was too long. Beginning was boring and around 3/4 of the way in got boring too for a sec. Could have shaved down ~100 pages. However it didn't feel that long because of the short chapters which was a blessing. Compared to Suzanne Collins who writes 15+ page chapters with books a similar length, this book felt MUCH shorter.

this book makes me feel so weird... I don't know how to explain it, but it reminds me of a night in August when I was outside with all my friends. We were lying on my trampoline, looking at the stars, some shitty cavetown song playing. We talked about this girl who had run away. Then we saw this light flashing in the sky. We thought it was a plane. Or a satellite. Or a UFO.

We thought we were all going to die.

I don't talk to those people anymore. I don't even like them anymore. But that's how this book makes me feel, like I'm back there, in that moment.

It makes me feel so terribly sad but I don't want to cry. So I won't.

Does that make sense to you?

The book is written from the perspective of a teen girl in her senior year/s of high school. As such, at points, it is a little hard to read as it becomes too cringe or sometimes a little cliche.

I found the book to be a quick read (I read it in 2 days) and I loved the LGBTQ+ representation and the racial representation.

However, I did find the plot to be a bit lacking.

Wow. Such a good book! I am speechless. Alice Oseman  really is the Jane Austen of Gen Z. The characters are so diverse, so powerful and so well written, there is no way you can’t love the main characters. I especially am very fond of Raine. Always supported Frances wherever she could. I think this might be one of my new favorite books. It’s so original, modern, diverse, well written and well thought out. The only thing I would like to add is the fact that we knew a lot about the concept of university with, but we didn’t really got to know a lot about the story. We basically got thrown in the middle of a fire hoping that we’d escape ourselves. A part from that, a book that will carry my heart and tears.
