I have been making my way through all of Alice Oseman's work and honestly this was the book the looked the least appealing to me, but having finished it now it is one of my favourites! I loved Aled and Frances and the UniverseCity podcast - it made me want to listen to it so badly! I also loved the cameos from a few Solitaire/Heartstopper characters! As with 'I was Born For This', Alice writes fandom/tumblr culture with such pinpoint accuracy and it is interesting to see how she went on to develop those ideas more in that book. I could also heavily relate to the crisis that Frances suffers in the second half of the book
as someone who was poised to go in to academics but pivoted in to art school it was basically a retelling of my own experiences (although I wasn't quite smart enough for oxbridge!).

Overall, really enjoyed this book! However, if you are wanting to get in to Alice Oseman's work I would recommend reading Solitaire and/or Heartstopper first as this book is set after both of those. The start of this book kinda spoils the end of Solitaire, and if you read that first it will allow you to understand the world and character cameos. You don't have to ( I know Solitaire isn't everyone's cup of tea!) but it definitely enriched the reading experience to have that knowledge.

The way that I would THROW HANDS for ALED by the end of this book is completely irrelevant to the fact that I loved it.

Something I think I really needed to read in high school but also is universal, a moment to stop and think: am I doing this because I want or because it’s expected?

A fantastic sophomore novel, this book is technically a stand alone, but also reading it after solitaire makes a lot of sense.
