I read this book with The Swoony Readers book club. I was fighting a slump pretty much all of July but as soon as I picked up this book I was immediately sucked into the story, and I didn't want to stop reading. This just gave me everything I needed at the time to get me out of my slump. I loved the banter between the Nat and Kage. I also really loved the friendship between Nat and Her best friend Sloan and their interactions together. They were just so funny. The spice was definitely spicing and I loved that too. Was this predictable? Yes, but do I care? Not one bit. My only complaints were that it was a little too insta love for me and I really wanted to see Kage grovel in the end because God knows he needed to. Did either of these issues I had affect my enjoyment of this book in any way, no. Like I said this was just what I was needing. I finished this book wanting to immediately continue with series and that never happens. I bought the book and borrowed the audiobook and as of 7/28 I started reading book two.

It was an okay book however I’m not attached whatsoever to the characters and found myself bored throughout the book. Very predictable

It's a solid steamy smutty romance. The dialogue is funny and I loved the friendship between Nat and Sloane. The main story focuses on the fast pace hidden romance between Kage and Nat. It was enjoyable to read. Not much plot behind it all outside of their romance. Kages instant devotion was charming. It was direct but not a roll your eyes over the top annoying way. I can see why Nat fell in love with him so quickly. You get a glimpse into Kages mafia world but not enough to say there's a huge plot there.

I was going to give this book 3 stars but then I changed it to four stars because I really like Sloan and I liked her epilogue. Also, because when I read the name, Declan I am mediately became interested in the next book because I love the name, Declan like I can’t explain it. I just love it so much.

Honestly, this book was OK. I really liked the part in the book where Natalie found out that davit was alive and her little hunt to find him I really like that, and then him lying. telling her he’s been waiting for her all that time when he only waited for a year and then got married again. He is such a lil bitch.

I also don’t like men like Chris. I think that was his name. He and Natalie has only been dating for two months, barely known each other, and he talk about song they were meant for each other whatever he was saying, and try to force himself on her like I hate men like this so much.

Yeah that’s all I have to say on his back can’t wait to read the next one.

The banter and spice was chefs kiss in this, it had me sweating and laughing one after the other, sometimes simultaneously. The MMC is also a big powerful sexy mafia man who is ruthless with his enemies but would be prepared to die for the FMC, if that isn’t your type, idk what to tell you. If you also like a man who gifts his woman millions of dollars, a ten carat ring and grovels sexily, Kage is your man.

The reasons I couldn’t round this up to a five star was for two reasons, one it was very much insta love, the MMC had decided the FMC was his weakness before they’d even had much interaction. This may not be a big deal for some people, perhaps even a positive but personally by the half way point I needed the plot to pick up its pace to make up for the lack of angst.

The second is that although this book is fictional I AM AWARE, the fact this man was so soft for the FMC from the get go, it was just inconsistent with the ruthless killer mafia leader with a tortured past he was supposed to be. Maybe I’ve been reading too much dark romance idk but I just wanted some more scary energy from him and I was too distracted by his sweetness that I was thinking, hold on, this golden retriever is also the great big Russian mafia man feared by all? At one point he admitted reading regency romance novels…I MEAN COME ON.

Having said this PLEASE make sure you read book 2 in the series because Sloanes book was one of the best reads this year for me. You won’t regret it. I’m glad I picked that up before reading this or it would’ve been unlikely I would have continued the series.
