I cannot actually say enough good things. Do not let the minus one star fool you. I loved this book. I died for this book and was resuscitated to read it again. Kage... Is my type of guy. I go crazy for good banter. Smart remarks and what not. I got my fill. My cup overflowed. The only reason I didn't power through this book in one day was only because I had real life obligations that I tried my best to ignore. The plot, was good, the twist was better. It was a rare case where I didn't just follow along waiting for all the things I knew would happen. The minus one star was really just my desire for more groveling at the end. I love a good begging for redemption and I think this could have used it. Nat's character gives you a new take to an evenly balanced FMC. Usually they're all hard, or all soft. She balances it so well. She's anxious when makes sense, and girl is bold when you need it most. The build of Sloane being just interesting enough so you want another book, but not overbearing so you know whose book you're here for... chefs kiss. The love dynamic was soooo good girl! I was kicking my feet, gasping, and giggling. It was sweet, it was bitter, it was strong, it was sudden but not quick. The build.... uhhhh J. T Gessinger girl you have a fan in me.

Ugh. I really wanted to like this one….but honestly wish I DNF’d it. Not a fan of porn over plot…or more like porn with glimpses of the mafia. About halfway through I was just pushing through out of stubbornness. Skimmed the last 100 pgs. Definitely not for me, but if you’re in it just for the spice with mafia-lite vibes, maybe it’ll hit different for you.

Did I know what this book was about when I started it? Nope.
Did I blindly assume it was a fantasy book based on the cover? Sure did. (Ruthless CREATURES, Queens and MONSTERS).
Did I enjoy the read once I got over it? Yes I did.
A solid read. If I was someone who taught our mafia romance I feel like I would have enjoyed it more.
It did take me a little longer to get into this book. Partially because I hyped myself up for a fantasy book (my fault) but mostly because I’m not a fan of instant love and I found the characters a little unrealistic.
The spice in this book was also hit or miss for me. Some scenes were great but the scenes that dove more into kink just didn’t hit the way I expected.
