This is an intense book about family secrets, loyalty and the land. I really enjoyed this examination of what makes people family, ties that bind or unwind, because it is complicated. i appreciate this book and the authors approach to the messiness of living, the draw of home and the complexity of growing up with holding onto secrets.

I absolutely adored One Summer in Savannah, so I was really excited for Long After We Are Gone. While I didn't find it as compelling as One Summer, it was still an engaging read and I really appreciated learning about the complexities and inequities of land ownership.

While each sibling had their standout moments, I found Junior's story overall the most compelling and emotional for me. I enjoyed watching him grow and battle his inner demons and insecurities and finally accept who he is. I also loved Ellis, his character stood out the most and was the most likable. I found the end of Tokey's story to be the least satisfying, there were some scenes/behaviours where I actively disliked the character(s) and I still had a few questions by the end but it didn't really hinder my enjoyment.

Overall, this story didn't touch me as much as One Summer, however, it is still a worthy read.

Thank you to NG and the publisher for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

I loved One Summer in Savannah and so I appreciated the chance to read an ARC of this book (thanks very much, NetGalley!). I found it long and difficult to read and I couldn't find a character to like. Maybe Tokey.

Really enjoyed this book. Each of the siblings’ stories draws you in so completely. There were so many issues being addressed at once, and yet the story never felt bogged down or like there was a lack of focus. And the audiobook was really fantastic.

Honestly, I did not finish this book. I got a little more than half way through and just couldn't bring myself to finish the book. I may pick it back up later to see how everything turns out, but for now, I'm done. The reason I lost interest was the characters. First of all, there are too many characters. The book is written from the point of view of the 4 children, and the chapters rotate between them. However, on top of the 4 children, there are also multiple side characters. It was taking too much to keep up with them

The 4 children have come home to visit when their father, King, passes away. The find out that their family home may be snatched up by a development company, despite the property being passed down through the heirs for decades. The children are terrible people, except for Tokey, who suffers from an eating disorder. I found myself not really caring if the children inherited or not due to their awful choices they made and are continuing to make. From sex for favors, embezzling money, cheating on your wife, and carrying a sledgehammer to solve problems when you are upset.

This just is not the book for me.

I received an Advanced Readers Copy from NetGalley and the publisher in turn for an honest review.

A deeply emotional story of 4 siblings and the family legacy they inherited—the Kingdom.  For generations their family has passed the land on despite hardships thrown at the family.  When their father dies, it seems they will lose it all, as each is confronted by their own demons.

This started slow for me. Wasn't quite into Junior's double weak life. 🤔 But then the plot started plotting and I was curious to know how this messy family was going to pull together to save The Kingdom. I loved the bond of family and shared love for the dad's dying wish. Dad's famous quote, " Let it be" healed them all.
