So disappointed in this. I LOVED One Summer in Savannah. It is one of my favorite reads of the year. This is not good. It is too long, too many characters, very rambling. The story is a good one and an important one but it takes far too long to get there.

3/5 - listened to this one on audiobook. this felt similar to me compared to "the most fun we ever had" and "hello beautiful" in the sense of following a family, undigging the past, and everyone's relationships. of the 3, i think i enjoyed this one the most because it felt the most interesting/complex. however, i found it to be just "fine" and didn't really connect with it

King Solomon owned a large property that his ancestors were forced to work on as slaves. The book centers on his efforts to keep this property in the family.

After King dies, the family’s difficulties become more apparent, and eventually the book comes to a dramatic end. I love stories of families through the years, so this was a good fit for me. Very interesting, and I enjoyed learning about this family’s complicated life and how race entered into it.

I’m giving a 3. If I could round up. I’d give it like a 3.75. Really close to a 4. But the ending kinda confused me.
Really good story kept me engaged. I finished it. This family, it’s so crazy and so relatable. The writing in the book is really good. I think this would be a good play. Lol. Or life time movie.

I think it would have been a higher rating for me but I literally just finished a similar book. It’s titled Long Gone Come Home . and it’s amazing so this one just felt a little short in comparison to that one.

Too many characters, too few pages. I think if we had been given at least 150 more pages of these characters, it might have all felt more lived and loved. As it is, tons of drama with each of the four characters (with most of the four having a few additional dramatic characters attached to them). It just felt soapy. Which is fine. But not what I expected.

The two star review makes it seem like I disliked the book. That isn't the case. It just feels too much like an outline.

Wow! This is the second book I’ve read by this author this year. The authors note at the beginning was very eye opening and I reread it after I finished the book. Heir Property is something I never heard of and was shocked to learn and read about. This book follows four siblings and I did find it hard to keep track of some of what was happening and to who-probably just a me issue, lol. Overall I did really like this and would recommend it and her first book!
