My Soul to Keep (Soul, #1) by Kennedy Ryan (2020/12/27)
Rating 4/5 Stars

My Soul to Keep is book 1 in the Soul series and cannot be read as a stand-alone.
This story follows Rhyson Gray who is a Rockstar. He lives and breathes music. Kai has only two things on her mind, her mother and music. When Rhyson meets Kai, he knows he shouldn't go after her, but he does anyway.
I really enjoyed this novel. I loved how Kai and Rhyson formed this amazing friendship which then later on gets turned into a relationship. I loved how funny this novel was, but it also had some really sweet moments. I also loved how music was a prevalent theme through the story and how emotional it was. I really liked how strong and independent Kai was. I loved how she stood her ground when she disagreed with Rhyson.
Overall, I really liked this book and cannot wait to read the rest of the books in this series.

So after reading the Grip books, I had to circle back to this series. I liked Grip's books better, but I really enjoy the backstory too. Got two more to go and I am looking forward to them
I was completely and totally engrossed in Kai and Rhyson’s story. They definitely went through a lot and made some mistakes along the way, but that’s what made everything feel so real. The writing was top notch and I’m so glad I found this book after the series is completed because now I don’t have to wait for the next book to come out!
Well then, that was as wonderful as I've heard. It was wondeful because of the characters Rhyson and Kai. I'm not generally a fan of rock star romances, unless it's stand-out and I don't often pick them up to read but the buzz on this one came from trusted sources. The connection between these two was based in friendship, somewhat slow burn and had such chemistry that it sucked me in totally. I became wrapped up in these two and their lives. There are of course, complications, stupidity but connection that speaks of everything.
This is a series I can't wait to continue and I feel so excited to have found a new author whose writing I found so compelling.

Uggghhhh! A cliffhanger! I was so sucked into this story, that I didn't even realize Ryan did not have enough pages to resolve the conflict. BUT, I did really enjoy this story. The banter between Kai and Rhyson was so much fun, and their chemistry was incredible. They shared so many special moments are they allowed themselves to be seen, truly seen, by another person. Both of them had baggage, and together they were unpacking some of it. I know Ryan will give me a resolution I can live with, but the wait will be painful.
My Soul to Keep is a fantastic story, and while I read the Grip series first, it still worked for me to read this one now.
Kennedy is truly amazing at creating flawed, but very lovable characters, and I loved Kai and Rhys to pieces.
The music references, the movie references, and the very slow burn between them made me a very happy reader.

Damn, Rhys! I wasn’t expecting that shit. Be right back with some words.
I spent the entire weekend reading this gem. Kai Pearson is a struggling dancer-singer waiting for her shot at performing. She moved from Georgia to LA after her mother died to pursue her dreams. Like many struggling out of work actors and singers, Kai works as a waitress, a teacher and assistant to a vocal coach in LA. This is where she meets Rhyson Gray. Rhyson is a piano prodigy turned rockstar. He's been there and done that many times over and he's looking for something more. When he meets Kai, he feels an instant connection with her. But she's having none of it despite feeling the same way about him.
So they begin a friends-who-wants-to-bang-each-other-but-won't-because-of-reasons relationship.
Yeah. Like that ever works out well for everyone.
It started out slow with a doozy of insta-lust/connect/love whatever, which is a pet peeve of mine. I almost gave up on it because I wasn't connecting with the Kai, and Rhyson was much too controlling and stalkerish for my taste.
But then things started coming around for me at about 40% or so. I understood why Kai was so reluctant to let anyone in. The author was able to show me that yes, her concerns about being in a relationship with Rhyson is valid and true. Suddenly, the book just took off and I could not put it down.
Oh my gosh. Things start to happen as Kennedy Ryan was slowly building the pieces of the story which at first I didn't quite grasp until it all started coming together and bingo! Puzzle pieces fall together beautifully: the conflict, the angst, the family drama...everything! The story just took flight as Kai struggles to keep her identity and not be overwhelmed by Rhyson's will. And Rhyson is a force. I do believe he loves Kai but he seriously has no boundaries whatsoever. Some of the things he did undermined their relationship in the worst possible way.
Unfortunately, every single doubts and reservation that Kai had about Rhyson all came true and it hurts reading about it. The angst especially in the second half was phenomenal.
Unfortunately, there was no relief yet for my poor, bruised heart because I have to wait for March 2016 to get the conclusion of Kai and Rhyson's story.
And so it begins...

Beautiful story, beautiful characters. 4 Stars for it. I just love Kennedy's writing.
But the drama and conflict? It was a bit too much and really predictable. I knew something like that would happen at the end, but I hoped it wouldn't. Rhyson made such a stupid choice, how can he be so dumb? He did exactly what his parents did to him... even though I really love him, I hope his grovel game is strong in [b:Down to My Soul|27238995|Down to My Soul (Soul, #2)|Kennedy Ryan|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1456070210l/27238995._SY75_.jpg|47287121]. If I were Kai I wouldn't forgive him easily.
