Will pick back up in print. Arguably the worst audiobook narration I’ve ever heard.

The audiobook is fantastic. The narrator did such a good job capturing the southern essence of the book and I think it wouldn’t have been as atmospheric had I read the print version.
I expected a thriller or mystery, but just like The Last Housewife, instead I got something darker with less mystery and more of a compelling cult vibe. The mystery to me was what Ruth would do/say/believe as she uncovered truths about the people closest to her.
I didn’t understand Ruth as a person, but I could appreciate her struggle as a sheltered daughter of a religious zealot finding her place and trying to make sense of right and wrong.

Let’s say 3.5 stars. I liked that it was set in Louisiana. The discussions of religion and the Twilight tie-ins were good. This wasn’t what I expected, but it kept me interested. The ending was a little disappointing. The description hints at it, but I had hoped it wasn’t going to be that obvious.
