This is definitely a minimal plot and mostly vibes kind of book. I loved it. LaRocca has a very unique writing style that I enjoy, and the imagery is equally beautiful and disturbing. This novel tells the story of a serial killer who murdered his lover, and the whole thing is told through transcripts and a novella that the character had written. Most of this story is the novella, which might be off-putting for some people, but I thought it was very interesting. If you're looking for short, ambiguous horror and you want something unique, give this a try!

3.5 I love LaRocca's writing. This story didn't stick with me as some others have. maybe because I listened instead of read
there were so many typing errors, this thing could have definitely used an editor. but it was real good!
it has similar vibes to “things have gotten worse” in that it’s presented as a… true crime write-up i guess? like there’s a journalist who presents facts about a guy named martyr who’s gone missing after killing his partner ambrose, but the meat of the book is martyr’s novella interspersed with grisly poems and audio transcripts of convos between martyr and ambrose.
this book was a lot less gross than “things have gotten worse” tho

I can't even begin to make sense of this book, and yet, I loved it. I can't stop thinking about it.
Someone already said it, but it bears repeating. This book is no plot, only vibes. And yes. Yes it is. Do not try to analyze this book, do not try to assign true depth to any of the characters. You will find no deeper meaning. Just enjoy this novella for what it is: a gay, horror sci-fi, story within a story thrill ride. Look no further than that.
I ate this up in one day. It confused the hell out of me and had me wriggling in my seat at times. The writing is excellent. The parts of the book are so diverse from each other, but I had no trouble keeping them separate because it is so well written.
It's weird and vague and unsettling and I had a hell of a time with it.
It could be considered extreme horror and they whole thing has a lot of potentially triggering elements, so please protect your peace and use your best judgement when it comes to extreme violence, gore, and body horror.

Feeling like I’m the only person to prefer this to LaRocca’s precious work—I just vibed with so much of what this was trying to do. I definitely recognize that it’s not for everyone and I very much recognize its less than perfect execution, but it pushed on some favorite buttons of mine, so I flew through this and was fully into it the whole way through.
Hmm.
Ok.
But what was the fucking point?
P.s: Bonus ⭐ for his incredible writing.

Lads I really wanted to love this book but I'm let feeling......'what?'
There are reviews below that already state that this book needs edited. I noticed a few mistakes but I looked over them to begin with but there is one near the end which just pulled me out of the story. One of my all time favourite twists/tropes happens in this book but I don't feel like it was well executed.
If you're into body horror then I'd say give this a go but its not as disturbing as Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke.
I shall continue to read more of Eric's works as I do think his writing is good I may just been more selective in what I choose next from them.
