The illustrations are gorgeous, but the text feels a trifle forced at times - not for the bilingual aspect (the Spanish words all seemed to me entirely comprehensible from context, even without reference to the included glossary at the beginning), but just the occasionally awkward rhyme or plotting.

The twist made me realize that I’ve only ever known this fairy tale from versions where the maiden found out about the pea trick in advance and used it to her advantage, so I was irritated that what I thought was the girl’s story was given to the boy in this version...but I guess I just didn’t grow up on the original! Whoops.

The deservedly award-winning illustrations are what make this book, though.

A retelling of the Princess and the Pea.  The story rhymes, and some of the rhymes use Spanish words.  It was easy to understand the meanings of the words from context, and there was a glossary in the back.  I found the use of Spanish words completing the rhyme scheme to be delightful.

This is a cute version of an old favorite, but with a taste of Spanish and a new twist. The illustrations are beautiful and the people and textiles represent indigenous Peruvians. I liked el principe’s tenacity - he wasn’t above a little mischief so he could be with his love!

Well-done retelling of the tale with seamlessly integrated Spanish words/vocabulary in a smooth rhyme scheme. The illustrations are absolutely lovely and well-textured -- with influence from Peruvian textile design.

It's cute! For some reason I am not a big fan of the actual folk tale, but the illustrations and bilingual rhymes are perfect.
