This is the 10th book in the Dr. Ruth Galloway series and definitely not one of my favorites. Ruth takes a holiday in Italy to help an old colleague uncover the mystery around a recently discovered set of bones and finds herself in a couple of pickles – both in Italy and back at home with DCI Harry Nelson, the father of her child. I was a little irritated with the drama between Ruth and Harry this time and felt the ending was a bit over the top. And of course – I’m going to continue reading the series to find out what happens!!

Ruth goes to Italy and becomes embroiled in a mystery that spans generations. However, if I'm being truthful, I am reading these now to see what happens between Ruth and DCI Nelson.

In this book Griffiths contrives an earthquake that makes Harry and Cathbad travel to Italy to check if Ruth and Kate are all right. Harry leaves behind his pregnant wife days before the baby's first ultrasound and knowing that a recently paroled criminal might be seeking revenge because Harry is one of the cops that sent him to jail. The outcome of these scenarios are all predictable, but the climax offers an unexpected, and quite frankly heartbreaking, twist.

Another great entry to the Ruth Galloway series. It’s like the crack of books. Read it in less than 24 hours, now have to wait excruciatingly for the next instalment of the Ruth and Nelson saga.
