when i originally read graceling this was the only other book in the series and i read the excerpt and straight up did not care bc it was not more graceling stuff so i never read it until now . HUGE MISTAKE

was honestly just as good if not slightly better than graceling. i do think it was a little slow to start, but its basically a 2nd book 1 for the series; there was a Lot it had to set up and explain. all of the reveals at the end never felt forced and i was honestly Super surprised at one particular thing but i shan't say here cause i dont want to put a spoiler on this review.

the graceling realm continues to be a pleasent change from other YA for me with how i actually enjoy the main pairings as well, and also its like. just generally WAY darker than other YA and not to a detriment. the continued discussions of feminist topics also is interesting and i actually find it really well done, i admit ive not delved into a lot of YA stuff but these books handle a lot of things very maturely and in a way i think many other authors could not

The kingdom of the Dells is very fun and interesting and im sad i slept on it for so long. i hope it makes a return in some way in the following books. Bitterblue is my only other reread for this series so im looking forward to where else this series will go

Lidt mærkelig i starten, men man vænner sig til det efterhånden. Skal helt sikkert også læses på engelsk

My Goodreads friends seem to be divided about whether they preferred Fire or Graceling, and I am in the group that enjoyed Fire more. A lot of that comes down to personal taste. Graceling was more of an adventure fantasy story, whereas Fire had more court intrigue and politics, which I prefer. The story isn't without its flaws, but I enjoyed it. A solid four star read for me.

Enjoyed this book as much as the first.

BUT, I will say.. this book had a massive amount of similarities to the first book. To the point that Katsa & Fire sometimes seem like the same character, just with different names.

My only hope is that book 3 will be completely different and not a repeat.

Also, book 2 is really a companion novel while book 3 is the actual sequel to book 1. I didn’t realized that going in, so that was interesting.

This really feels like such a mature book for the young adult genre! I was obsessed with this book as a teen, but it really holds up as an adult. I went through such a range of emotions as Fire dealt with grief, self-hatred, sorrow and more. I love how this book works as a stand-alone, but also has a second plot going that ties into Graceling and shows us Leck's backstory. The plot point of Fire being beautiful to the point of driving people mad was very close to making her a pick-me girl (lol), but thankfully, she remained very lovable and relatable throughout the story. Also, I LOVE how the author has given us stories of both a woman who staunchly does not want to be a mother and a woman who deeply desires motherhood - both can be true, and a woman is free to choose her own path!!!

A world where there are monsters that can influence your mind. Where a young woman with beautiful hair and face can get into your mind and see what you feel and think. A world that is on the verge of war. And at the beginning a graceling with a red eye. I loved Graceling and I really liked this book, but didn't love it. It could be that I listened to this one. But I did like the audio. I thought the narrator did a good job with voices though all men sounded similar.
