Sometimes, when rating a book, you just have to go with your gut. And when it comes to the Chorus of Dragons series, I turn into a melting ball of fangirl goo and cannot form coherent critiques. This series is EVERYTHING. The narrative style is so unique. Each book is told as though a chronicler is recording the events for prosperity (ala Name of the Wind), and the use of footnotes is *chef's kiss*. There's a full glossary, family tree, and timeline for reference (trust me, you'll need it), and there's even a handy summary of the previous installments at the beginning that's seamlessly woven in as part of the story (HOW DOES SHE DO IT?). I cannot imagine the depths of Jenn Lyons' mind that allow her to create this incredible world and such loveable, diverse, multi-layered characters, but I want to live there (in her mind, not in this world, cuz um no). Granted, this series is high level stuff. I do not recommend for those new to the fantasy genre, as it will probably scare you off fantasy for life. But if you can keep up, and don't mind drawing character maps to keep track of soul switches and family relations, I cannot speak highly enough of A Chorus of Dragons. Also, is anyone else detecting polyam rep or is it just me????? *heart eyes emoji*
