I liked the story line but I found that following two different characters in two different time periods made it a little confusing.

This was an amazing book. I didn't know much at all about the Tulsa riots and having the perspectives of the characters was great! If you like mysteries and history, read this now!!!?

Book #48 read in 2024

I enjoy historical novels with a mystery as part of the plot. The story opens in 2017 when Rowen Chase finds bones buried under the floor of her guest house. It takes place during the Tulsa Race Riots in 1921 and is told in alternative timelines. Throughout the entire story, we are left to wonder who the bones belong to and how they ended up under the floor. In flashbacks to the past, we see the race war heating up and follow Will and his family as they navigate the times.

I really enjoyed the historical aspect, and it led me to do more research on the Oklahoma riots, as that is, unfortunately, not something I remember learning about in school. This one is definitely worth the read!

I enjoyed this! It was a quick read, the dual timeline POVs were interesting and the mystery kept me guessing until the end. I was a little uneasy when I realized the author was white, but I felt like it was well-researched and done well to cover a really important moment in US history to depict the true horror and racism. I absolutely hated William at the beginning and was unsure and nervous where it was going, but I was glad to see his progress and development and Rowan’s growth was interesting too, just wanted more of that.
