The first in the series was such a good book with depth to the characters. In this Violet drove me crazy! No depth and someone narrow sighted with her 'I want to be a missionary' mind set.

There aren't many books that I greet with as much anticipation and delight as a new one from Sarah Sundin. Her books never disappoint and The Sky Above Us is another stellar WWII romance from one of the masters.

The whole concept of this series is so great. To get a look at the events leading through D-Day from the eyes of the three estranged Paxton brothers is fascinating and informative. In the first book we were at sea with Wyatt, this time we're in the air with Adler, and next time we'll be on the ground with Clay.

I seriously can't say enough good things about this book. Sundin's attention to detail, the flawless way she weaves fact with fiction, the heartfelt spiritual message, the wonderful characters, the swoonworthy romance... I could go on and on. I was sad when I reached the final page. I didn't want the story to end. I didn't want to say goodbye to Adler or Violet. It was just so good. I highly, highly recommend it and can't wait for Clay's story!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.

Sarah Sundin has done it again. I spent most of the day reading because my heart couldn’t take not know what would happen to Violet and Adler.

Normally I do not like Christian romance authors because everything is so scrubbed pure that the characters feel scandalized just for noticing someone attractive. Sarah writes characters that aren’t afraid to be human and I love that.

I’m accidentally reading this trilogy backwards because that is the order my library got them in from the library loan system. However, these stories are just as enthralling and sweet even knowing spoilers.

These Paxton brothers are stealing their way into my heart! Admittedly, I have a soft spot for Texans and great respect for our servicemen and women so it only took a little nudge. Adler’s reckless abandon and deep regrets are evidence of his good character and tender heart. Violet’s perceptions and motivations challenged me to examine my own heart.

This series has a wonderful balance of love and war, faith and strife, and Americans and Brits. The stories of Sunrise at Normandy would be a perfect date night movie for my husband and me! I definitely recommend this series and I’m eagerly anticipating the final installment.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a review. The opinions expressed are my own.

Another great WWII novel!

I was very intrigued about Adler's story and journey after reading the first book and it was not what I expected. That is something I love about Sarah Sundin, her books are all so different and not formulaic at all.

Adler was a great main character. Flawed and in need of forgiveness and healing. He had quite a journey. And he was able to heal and forgive with the help of Violet. Violet is our main heroine and I liked that even though she had a strong faith and planned to be a missionary she wasn't perfect and had to go through some soul searching. These two go on a wild ride of romance and healing and forgiveness together and it's beautiful and so sweet.

And, of course, I can't ignore the WWII storyline throughout the whole book. So much history. And even though this is romance fiction Sarah Sundin doesn't shy away from reminding you this is wartime and not everyone makes it home alive or whole. And times were hard for everyone. Also this part of the book wasn't formulaic and was completely different from the first book.

The faith element is a big part in this book. But I didn't feel like it was preachy and it fit in with the overall story and characters.

~ AUDIOBOOK REVIEW ~
I really enjoyed this second book in the series. I again liked the spiritual journeys the characters walked through in their Personal lives. I could relate in ways to Violet, with my own ministry dreams and prayerfully considering why my life seems to go in a different direction then I’d always dreamed. It was also interesting to get a peak into the role of the American Red Cross in WWII.

Series:
I would suggest reading the books in order. Yet if you really wanted to read this book by itself I think you could since each book is about a different brother... it’s just way more interesting with the context of the first book and seeing parallels of the Lord working in their separate lives ...I can’t wait for the third book!

Audiobook: 5 stars
Sarah Zimmerman is a great narrator, she really brings the characters to life and is amazing at switching between the accents.

This is the second installment in the story of the Paxton brothers. I listened to this one, and it was just as good as the first.
