The summaries of each "bad girl" in the book were awesomely written, and Guay's portraits of each were exquisite. I was less thrilled about the didactic and corny comics of the authors discussing the women's relative guilt. I think the ideas they presented were great, I just didn't understand the need to put it in graphic format. We're they afraid that young readers would be put off if those thoughts were in essay form? Great summation of those ideas at the end - in a thoughtful essay at that. Also, awesome bibliography, but then, Yolen is a professional! Can't wait to read more about the women they introduced. Maybe they'll write Bad Girls II but skip the cheesy comics.

I've read a couple of similar books before, so it's interesting to see which women are the recurring chatacters and which entries were unfamiliar.
I like how the authors interspersed their journey, thoughts and commentary in the forn of comic strips throughout the book.
My main critique is the gaping hole in history between the Bible's Salome and Anne Boleyn—I'm sure there were bad women in that 1500 year gap!

An interesting book, but problematic. How can you write a book about taking a closer look at the true motives of history's "bad girls" and include vignettes where the authors are very clearly passing judgment on these women? It seems that the authors wanted to open up the conversation, but were uncomfortable with the idea that readers might feel sympathy with murderers, criminals, and seductresses.

This introduction to historical female figures with bad reputations was written a little younger than I thought it would be but it was fun and fast. Each chapter started with a portrait of the woman and was given a brief overview of how she earned (rightfully or not) a place in history as a bad girl followed by a graphic illustration of the authors talking about the woman in question.

This would have been a far better book without the superfluous, inane graphic novel commentary. Use the art to illustrate the stories, not for author navel-gazing and wittering about shoes and shopping and manicures.

The artwork is great, and some of the women profiled are fascinating in their own right. But this is a very surface-level examination of each of these women, and a lot of the historical details are...wrong? The interspersion of the authors between each chapter feels more self-indulgent and irritating than anything.
