Very slow beginning but I think it’s meant to describe our characters neurosis. I think the development is fantastic and eerie and definitely full of features and end ending that is made up of a few outcomes that the reader can decide ultimate to feel tender hearted or at full dismay
Another amazing short story by Henry James, "The Jolly Corner" is about Spencer Brydon, who has lived in Europe for decades, and has now moved back to his native New York. He is building a new apartment complex in the city, and marveling about the changes to the city in his absence, to his friend Miss Staverton. He also returns to his childhood home, and takes to wandering the empty house late at night and gradually begins to feel he is being watched. He begins to believe the apparition is the man he could have been had he stayed in New York.
The story takes place almost entirely in Brydon's mind, as he wanders his old house in which he grew up. He basically psyches himself out with his imagination, imagining the man he could've been, until he begins to scare himself into thinking his alter ego is really there in the house with him.
The story was subtley intense. Before I knew it, I was hooked into the story, wondering how it would end.
