I thought this was the last of the series. But it isn't ~ another Clifton cliffhanger!
Mightier Than the Sword was once again as good as the first two books in the Clifton series. Books 3 and 4 were somewhat lacking, but 5 pulled me in again. Now comes the interminable waiting for book 6 (2016)!
More of the same stuff we saw in the previous 3 books. Villains plot against the Barringtons, they combine against them but the Barringtons win through. I was hoping this was going to be the last of the series but lo.. Archer wants us to keep reading on.
The characters I loved earlier are now just caricatures. Henry and Emma and Giles were all so captivating in the first couple of books. Not so now. Harry is now a human camera (though his experience in Russia was perhaps the only interesting part of the book), Emma just a dumb chairman and Giles a boring politician. All very boring. We lose one bad guy but get a new one. All very boring.. just the usual.
But as always, a very snappy read. I read it through in about 3 nights. Thats the one redeeming aspect of Jeffrey Archer. He never bores you with the reading. You may feel frustrated that you are reading the same stuff again and again but you still want to turn the page to see what happens next. And I will probably get book 6 and read through it as rapidly when it comes out

Had there been a little less politics, this would have been the best one of the series. Another one as usual ends on a cliffhanger. Great work by Jeffrey Archer.
Really pretty poor. He used to write page turners but even that doesn't happen in this book. The characters are stereotypes of the worst sort.

Great book! Someone has received their just comeuppance! at last.... hoping for some more humble pie for the remaining villans! Zipping off to start book 6... like now! Those darn cliffhangers are nerve wracking.... 😳😳

I really like the Clifton Chronicles series, and now I've caught up to the author. Sigh. One more book to read and then I must wait with other fans for the next instalment.
In this, the fifth book in the series, Jeffrey Archer takes us to 1970 and the branches of the story sprout new shoots. I am so eager to get my hands on book 6!!!
