I completely love this book. this is everything that science fiction should be doing. despite the fact that it was over 500 pages, I felt that the pace never really slackened. new insane problems kept arising, and the ultimate ‘antagonist’ was one of my favorites of all time. the human and the alien characters are well crafted and lovable. moments of humor are always unexpected and thus actually make me laugh out loud. I don’t know what book 3 can possibly do, but I guess I’m here for it.

I loved Children of Time, but I was skeptical that Tchaikovsky would be able to pull off a sequel that kept the series going as strongly as book one. If you've got the same worry then I can tell you now it is unfounded.

Children of Ruin is a brilliant story. At once incredibly intelligent, well researched, emotional, entertaining, and occasionally outright horrifying.

Notnfantastic, but much more enjoyable than the first book. The plot is less all over the place and we're around characters enough to care. Will be continuing the series.
