I loved this series! I hope Rick Riordan decides to do more with it in the future :)

God. I just. Accidentally deleted this entire review bc my finger slipped. Remind me not to ever type these things on iphone smh.
Take two. Dangit. I typed so mUCH; I wish I had SAVED IT. Dates estimated bc time isn't real and I'm certainly not real enough to even attempt to quantify it anyway.
WIL
1) chapter titles! As always, the chapter titles cracked me up. I'm including these here so hopefully Rick won't pull that HOO stunt again and leave chapter titles off.
2) Sadie. God I love her. She's a combination of Thalia's edgy spunk, Percy's characteristic Seaweed Brain confusion and impulsiveness, Leo's good humor, and Zoe's confidence. She's ICONIC and has SUCH a strong presence. So, basically, anyone who speaks to me in the next few weeks: be prepared for me to adopt a few of her mannerisms. I love this chick too much, so of course I've got some entrainment to work through.
3) the audio format. I knew it. I called it. I KNEW it would grow on me. I was hesitant to accept the new structure/format in book one, but it grew on me, and dang is it a powerful growth. It's wrapped me up nice in tight in the growing vines like a sweater and I became terribly comfortable with it. And NOW the series is OVER. Devastating. I KNEW this would happen!!! Need more books with that audio format!!!
4) Just....read these:
"I wondered if this was what being a grown-up felt like. Horrible" - Sadie, 80 (hahahha Sadie rhymes with eighty)
"Whenever I felt lke something was impossible, I usually tried even harder out of sheer stubbornness." - Carter, 137
"Zia...we can't burn down the nursing home." -Sadie, 157
"So much for being a verbal freight train. I'd become a verbal train wreck." - Sadie, 268
This whole book read like a comedy skit, and I loved every second of it. (Another unintentional rhyme. Apollo, why would you choose now to possess me?) It's that perfect Riordan-esque mixture of hilarity, absurdity, genuinely philosophical themes, and delightful characterization.
5) I frickin' LOVE that these books include so many different Egyptian characters! I love that Riordan obviously did a whole bunch of research (in the notoriously convoluted and contradictory (what! Now alliteration! Stop it, Apollo, I didn't ask for this!) field of Egyptology and managed to cherry pick some especially iconic stories for his characters to face. That's so clever. It's world building upon world building. META. OH HOW I MISS BEING A HUMANITIES MAJOR.
WIDL
1) Stop making me fall in love with characters right as the story ends. Quit it. I won't have it. My heart cannot TAKE IT. May or may not have a massive crush on Anubis which only makes the fact that this is over even WORSE.
Neutral Ground
1) Waltnubis and Sadie. I thought about where to put this one for a long time. Well, like, two days. But that's a long time given the rate I'm going through these things. Anyway. I like this enough to be a WIL but I dislike it in equal measure. Here's the breakdown:
WALTNUBIS AND SADIE WIDL
1) pretty bow. This is a decidedly NOT textbook fairytale ending. I mean, me personally, I've never seen a book where the protagonist's two love interests merge into a single person (immortal possessor and dying possessed). But it was absolutely still a fairytale ending because the entire love triangle conflict dissolved. Straight up vanished. Instead of choosing between two boys, Sadie got exactly what she wanted and only had ONE boy who was, amazingly, both her love interests. That's just... so convenient. Almost annoyingly so.
WALTNUBIS AND SADIE WIL
1) THAT SAID. Sadie's options then became "do I *want* to date the duo-merged-god-boy-person OR do I want to just be on my own and sort things out for myself" which seems a perfectly reasonable reaction in the bizarre circumstances. And her hesitation to accept the circumstances is what made the whole thing great. She was understandably a little freaked by the merge, and I appreciated that dose of realism.
2) Thanks, Ra plot! You've given me an excuse to use this image that I otherwise NEVER have a good reason to use.
