Hands down the worst book I have read.

A real page turner. I found I was invested in every character. Which is something I wasn’t expecting given the early events of the book. Warm, funny but also delicate and dark in the perfect balance.

A nice easy read with some well-drawn characters and plots that keep you turning the page. It's all tied up a little too neatly at the end, however: without spoilers, thank goodness for wealth; it can get you out of the most dispicable of circumstances. I'm tempted to downgrade to 3 stars, but no denying I did enjoy the ride so I'm keeping it at 4.

A new-to-me author. I liked 'The Party' so much, I looked for more of her work. This novel, with so many characters and plotlines, was less satisfying (and in light of the recent Weinstein / "metoo" revelations, the main character felt too relevant).

A group of strangers whose lives intersect is one of my favorite literary themes, and it's done well in Paradise City. I really cared about what happened to these people and was quite surprised how they all came together.
