The story of Trombone Shorty, written by Mr. Trombone Shorty himself. Good narrative, with illustrations I spent a lot of time looking at, but mostly because I found their construction distracting. Really great historical photos in the afterward of Trombone Shorty when he was a boy.

Really enjoyed this. I think it would especially be good for kids from our library who are lower income. It was a cool read about a local musician that I didn't even know existed. Loved it.
A colorful and creative look at the famous Treme- New Orleans-born jazz musician's life, as told by Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews himself and with great mixed media illustrations. I loved how he and his friends were so into music when they were kids that, lacking real instruments, they created drums out of boxes and made up other instruments to be able to play along.

Bryan Collier never disappoints. Must listen to some Trombone Shorty now! Wonderful.
I read this book ages ago after I heard Troy Andrews' interview on Marketplace Weekend. I really loved the story and I was thrilled it got a Caldecott Honor. I have booktalked it a few times since reading it to kids of a pretty wide range of ages & parents. And the photo of him with the giant trombone is the absolute cutest.
