Okay I really liked this one. It took me weeks to finish, but that was no fault of the book. It was a 10/10 Victorian sensation novel and I really loved it. The only thing that keeps me from giving it five stars is the weird way Marian and Walter treated Laura like a child. Not that this really diverges too much from Victorian understandings of gender, but it was still annoying. Also annoying was Marian constantly referring to her weakness as a woman, which weakened an otherwise very strong character.
