One of my all time favorite story time books! I like to ask the kids to find the cat and mouse on the pages as we go through the story.

A great introduction to the orchestra for kids, this book has poetic verse and colorful illustrations. The only thing that bothered me was the reality that a violin would not be heard over the cacophony of wind and brass instruments.

Thanks to Literary Disco (Julia!) for introducing me to this: it has such fluid, snappy rhymes, well-disguised educational content, and dynamic illustrations that I think it's a perfect picture book. Made me want to go to an orchestral performance and hopefully it will do that for its younger readers too!

The audiobook has all kinds of musical instruments playing throughout - beautiful! Try listening to it and reading the book at the same time.

Moss counts up to ten by introducing a new instrument. But rather than the normal counting numbers, Moss uses the terms to describe musical groups ("quintet"). The text rhymes. What the picture book lacks is sound. It would be an excellent candidate for a book on CD that introduces what each instrument sounds like along with the name.
