Ok WOW. I loved the first book, and when I read a Touch of Ruin I was worried I was starting to not like Persephone or her choices. But THIS book. This opened the story up in an amazing and exciting way. I feel she found herself as a character and I fell in love with the Queen she grew into when she gained her confidence. The action in this book had me on the edge of my seat. Twists and turns. I laughed and cried. This was by far my favorite book of the series so far!!

I won't be reading anymore of these books. I've just grown weary of them. They are pretty average, and it feels like the author is stretching them out for no other reason than to keep the series going. The cliffhanger at the end of this book had me rolling my eyes and thinking to myself 'just end it (the series) will you'. I'm happy not to continue based on feedback from the last book in the series (A touch of chaos). There's other, more readable fiction out there and life is too short.

3 things:
  1. A few of the sex scenes are confusing, some of which I think could do without. As the amount of explicit scenes increase and how they arrive to it feel... sudden and might I say, cheap. I makes their relationship's foundation as sex. In some cases, it just feels out of place.
  2. I like how Scarlett St. Clair illustrates the deep trauma that comes with boundaries violation and sexual assault. I like that it wasn't just glossed over or simplified; everyone deals with trauma and heals from trauma differently.
  3. Who is Theo? Dunno if that's a typo in my ebook but could not find who Theo is. First scene with Theseus.

I would love to give this a 4 because the last 25% of the book just picked up and had my full attention....but leading up to that was all the spice peppers and had me wondering if we were going to continue blatantly ignoring storylines or are we gonna do something about it. Spoiler, not a spoiler we did something about it. So for the lack of plot and character development in the beginning I docked one star.
I still really like the book and series, its easy to get through, spicy and has a good range of characters. I'll absolutely continue to Book 4 because how can you NOT with that cliffhanger!
