Review:
This book had me torn between I’m in love with it and fuming! I should’ve known that a book about a remote conversion therapy camp would have me going through multiple emotions but this had my emotions in a yo-yo. One thing I loved is that it was unpredictable. I’ve said before that thrillers can be predictable, but I didn’t know what was coming next in this one. There was such a realism to the emotions each character portrayed. Adam completely captured the insidiousness of conversion therapy and how people can think they are doing the right thing while cause tremendous harm and trauma. I couldn’t imagine the thought process it takes for someone to even consider putting their child through this. It was rough at times, but I so enjoyed this book.

This book was TOUGH. It’s a conversion camp story so obvious TW for anything associated with homophobia or conversion therapy. It is pretty interesting though some things weren’t fleshed out quite enough for them to make sense.

I swear on my life I did not know I was getting into a conversion camp story. I went to tell my spouse that this story was not what I prepared to read and started to read them the description. I quickly found I had just failed to read the description.

All that aside, this book was amazing!!! So well written. I can’t believe the majority of the story one happened over the span of a couple days. Would definitely recommend this one. Read the content warnings first though

Too YA leaning for me. The pacing was super frustrating, and I just wasn't into what was happening.

The main character, Connor, is a breath of fresh air. His way of thinking and speaking feels real. All the intrusive thoughts, doubts, the sass, the wit, spectacular!!

This book was heartbreaking and freeing.
It wrapped up in a way that was realistic for a group of queer teens in this day and age, full of pain and hope at once.

There are more lessons in this book than i can type with blurry eyes but the one that stuck out the most to me is that for every person who wants to hurt you, there is a person who wants to save you.

The characters grasped my heart and i know they won’t ever let go.

“It was so kind of you to visit me in my loneliness.”

beautiful, painful, truthful, hopeful.

this was a really strong book, and i think it brings a lot of great discussions to the table. i did have a few issues with the cheating and the characters and the timeline of things (like the whole book takes place over basically one day and that makes zero sense) but i’d easily still recommend this.
