At first I wasn’t sure what the point of this book was—it seemed to be just the every day life in too much detail of a mother and daughter interspersed with poems written by the father and grandfather of the women. However, as the details of their daily thoughts and behavior patterns stack up, their own intimate histories, the reader comes to realize that the book is a portrait of how the act of a father leaving continues to reverberate down the generations of his children. Beautifully told and sparingly written. I was so glad I read this on audio as the music of the prose is wonderful to hear aloud. Highly recommended.
