I loved this. Yes, it was perhaps a little improbable in premise, but I don't care. The characters were magnificent and the story was completely engaging. Loved it.

I really enjoyed it, but I felt that it was slow paced. I would recommend it to people who enjoy romance and historical fiction but I'd warn them that it was slow paced and had a slightly confusing subplot. However it is definitely worth the read.

Things I liked:
  • This was just so delightful! Lots of fun a great story with great characters. A pleasant surprise.
  • I really loved Hannah’s character. She was a great mixture of attributes, which lead her to be a really grounded and practical heroine.
  • Molly was so cute! I loved that she was a steady presence throughout the book.
Things I didn’t like:
  • Marcus’s reasons for continuing the charade felt a bit silly to me, but that wasn’t a huge deal.

This is the first book I've read by this author. It's a book I just randomly picked up, and decided to read even though it had a cheesy title. I loved it. And will be looking into more books by her.

Hannah is a widow this last 6 months when a carriage accident lands David in her home recovering from a broken leg for a month, where David finds he likes the woman and her daughter but after the banns are read he freaks out and decides to pull a prank on his twin Marcus by signing his name in the marriage registry instead and then placing her in Marcus's mistress house and sending a letter saying his bride has arrived.
You can imagine how well this goes over with Hannah when she learns what's happened, but Marcus won't let her just go back home. So what starts as a marriage of convenience with one brother turns into an enemy's to lovers situation with the other one. This was such a fun read, I loved the characters, the ridiculous situations and even the kid was cute.

This book would’ve been a strong 4 🌟 romance... if not for the last quarter or so.

Marcus, the stuffy older twin always bailing out his ne’er-do-well brother, somehow lands as the husband to a country widow. The silly twin makes all sorts of seemingly altruistic promises to this widow, Hannah, but then selfishly realizes, “Oh golly gee, but altruism isn’t really for me!” Backs out of the marriage by naming his brother instead. So, yes, another one of his brother’s messed lands on Marcus’ doorstep - along with her adorable daughter. Add in some semi-confusing scenes of an additional storyline where Marcus is also trying to find a money counterfeit ring to clear his brother’s name, and I easily predicted how this was going to come to a head...

The slow burn romance was going perfectly with the sharp banter, long gazes, and the pair being thrown together. It was all crusty stuffiness and fiery will, but also slowly realizing how much they had in common or how similar their world views were. If you like slow burn, the first 75%-ish would be right up your alley.

And then - whoosh! Everything happens like wildfire. I felt the love story was rushed - from second kiss to sex to declaring love - so as to shift the focus to this flimsy counterfeit plot. It seemed more of a way to highlight the silly twin’s transition to New Man and, thus, sequel bait. It definitely knocked down my liking of the book. It’s disappointing when I had so been enjoying it until then!

It’s not that it isn’t enjoyable, because I still really liked the switch up, but it dipped into 👎🏽 just when I thought it was going to take off. A wee bit disappointing.
