This book is great!
It is the 3rd book (don’t worry you don’t need to read the others before this one) in the ‘Rewind-or-Die’ book series, The series is for people who miss the golden era of VHS rentals from the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s, those awesome B-grade slasher and monster movies.
I've read about 10 of these book so far, and they are so much fun, this one nails that nostalgic feeling right on the head, it is a urban legend based story, but it is different enough to keep you interested, and I am so relieved the author didn’t go soft on the ending (definitely NOT a Scooby-Do ending).

final scene took this from a 3 to a 5 star, we love to see a horror novel stick the landing for once

Not a bad read. The story is your basic Halloween slasher with a few twists. Benny Rose is a unique slasher/monster. While the story talks of all the rumors of Benny Rose, even at the end there is still some ambiguity at his real origins, which isn't a horrible choice as it leaves a bit of mystery.
Piper's writing style is easy to digest and not overly complicated. However, the descriptions are brilliantly vivid and detailed, especially the more gory scenes. While there is body horror and detailed gore, it's no where near extreme or splatterpunk levels of grotesque. The style and level or gore I actually enjoyed.
I did like the twist involving the motivations of Benny Rose and why he's going after our group of teen victims. And the ending is just...chef's kiss. I think the way the story wrapped up was perfect.
Overall, a good short horror story. Nothing particularly special but entertaining enough worth the read or listen.

It was a well told story and had interesting horror element, with Benny Rose. But unfortunately it wasn't really my cup of tea.

I’ll review this again. I was listening to the audiobook while I was distracted with work but it I did understand what was happening. Pretty bloody. Good story but I want to give it a more respectful listen.

Wow-this was a really good quick read. Perfect for Halloween, the villain in this story was actually terrifying and relentless. Story takes place on Halloween night so I would highly recommend this for a seasonal read.
