This book had a lot of suspense and a nice build to the conclusion. The clock was ticking, so there wasn’t a whole lot of side time for the main characters and their personal interactions, but Robb made it work and still succeeded in character development and a great plot. I love this series of you can’t already tell.

DNF. I read so many of these. Which I loved. But I think I’m over it now. Or at least for now.
I think this is the series' first cold case resurfacing. It was kinda fun to read but the solution came to quickly. There wasn't any of the usual desperation or blocked theories.
It's a J.D.Robb book. The literary equivalent of cheese curls.

Good suspense in this one which focused more on the mystery rather then the Eve/Rourke dynamic. Some readers were disappointed but I think the author needs to change the pace from book to book.
A great read in the series. The investigation was interesting and kept me reading even if at times it got a little slow for me. The whole background was great. I loved roark's involvement with the case and the strain it caused in him to give him an even better idea of how Eve works on a case.
In the end I was left thinking that despite the connection with him and therefore eve he wasn't as involved as i thought he would be considering Eve. I expected more in that area but other than that it was a great read.

My enjoyment of this series is always split 50/50 between the slice of life stuff with the cast (who I love) and the case Eve is currently working. In this instance both sides of the equation were very strong. The case is very graphic and upsetting in this one, and it gets a bit melodramatic by the end, which did knock it down a bit for me, but overall this is one of the stronger In Death books I've read thus far.
Graphic: Confinement, Cursing, Death, Sexual content, Torture, Blood, Kidnapping, Murder, War
Moderate: Gore
Minor: Police brutality, Grief
