A good concept let down by the execution. It took a really long time to get into this book, so much so I stopped reading it and read two other books before returning to Reverie. It gets more action packed toward the final few chapters, but by then there’s so many characters and so many things going on it’s a little hard to keep track of. I never really warmed to any of the characters either, which made it hard to care what happened to them.
This was such a fun and unique concept!! I loved the idea of someones fantasy being made real, and the friendship group in this was awesome! I will definitely be reading more from this author!!
The only thing that really stopped this from being a five star rating was the world building. There was definitely room for growth in that area.
That said, I found this to be a quick, fantastical read. I loved the magic of dreams. What a fascinating concept! I very much felt for Kane and his plight. Getting to meet and know all the others was a great journey. How their skills related to the psyche was also unique - but I don't want to spoil that one for you!
Fabulous overall. Loved the LGBTQ+ elements. Loved the magic. I'd totally read another book featuring this crew.

I thought this was going to be more of a magical realism book - but it's full-on fantasy. Kane is a kid who has lost of big chunk of memory after a car accident a few weeks back, in which he also destroyed an important historical site near his town. He begins the book walking through life with no connection to anyone but his parents and his sister. As far as he can tell, he had no friends, which seems weird for a teenager, until all of a sudden he discovers that he did have friends, but they're avoiding him. Long story short, there is a malevolent being that is torturing the town through the citizen's dreams, and the being is hoping to eventually rule the town and impose his own reality on the world. The person standing in the way? Kane - although he doesn't know it at first - and his friends. The story was engaging enough, but I don't think I'm the target audience anymore. Some of the characters were annoying in their portrayal, with a complete lack of understanding of the gray area of decisions, and other characters were just unnecessary, although I was supposed to be interested in their eventual survival (and I wasn't).
