Probably cool, if you're a YA reader.

I would not compare it to The Magicians.

Overall I think this book was a great idea and could have been much more. I felt like there was way too much going on and the actual plot got lost along the way.

The magic was very cool, but the characters were unfortunately flat and the plot repetitive and predictable.

As much as I loved the concept, I kept feeling like something was missing. This felt like it would have worked better as a sequel rather than a stand-alone since I wanted to better understand the deep connection between all of the characters and the world in order to feel the tension from Kane losing his memory.
Also, ask me about the “villain” because I have some THOUGHTS.

A gripping, illusory tale that weaves in and out of reality, and does a great job of creating believable and realistic characters. I do wish there was more emphasis on the side characters and exploration of their lives and relationships to the MC, as well as what I felt was a bit of a lackluster climax that while it did not live up to my assumed expectations based upon the first encounter, it didn’t exactly leave me entirely unsatisfied either.
