So the challenging thing about me rating this is that I haven't read the first 3 books where I am sure there is a lot of character development etc. I just didn't want to wait to see how season 2 of the anime was going to end (because there was that delay in releasing etc.) 
I did enjoy it enough and get enough extra details that were left out of the anime that I plan on reading the other light novels. And probably the manga as well.

Absolutely iconic, the reveals hit just right, the mysteries connect, the politics are politicking. Can't believe the anime is just up to this one. Onto the next one!!!

the best one yet. insane reveal(s) and everything comes together beautifully. as of now this is the last volume the anime has adapted so far, so next volume i’ll be going in totally blind. super excited :D

This book was one big rollercoaster. The start with Lishu and the ghost was fairly slow. But things started to pick up and get MESSY oh my goodness! The twists and turns?! I was not prepared.

There was a bit towards the end when there were discussions about a clan, the adopted clan head, the clan head's daughter, the emperor's daughter and I couldn't keep it all straight at all. A few names here and there, would've alleviated my confusion.

THAT ENDING!? THE EPILOGUE!? Wow. Wow. It was more than I expected. I didn't know I could get behind a slow burn but I am fully aboard the Maomao Jinshi train. Their little moments are so special! I was smiling like a fool.

I feel like things have wrapped up in a fairly neat overarching arc, but I see there are several more books. So clearly things aren't over. There's a part of me hankering to start Volume 5 tonight, but I will try to exercise restraint.
