The opening scene was funny, tense and captivating. It touched on ideas of class and manipulation of society and female desire. It had so much potential !!!!! The rest of the book was boring and terribly written. It is as if Charles Webb had a really good plot idea and decided to write it all down as quickly as possible before he forgot it. Despite the plot not having any padding, I was still incredibly bored. He CANNOT write women. At all. I can’t give details because of plot spoilers, but it is horrific. He wrote so much unnecessary dialogue, each person’s tone that of the exact same bored robot. It worked for the main character to begin with but it was so tiring by the end. I want to give Webb the benefit of the doubt and say he left conversations unsaid deliberately, but I know he just didn’t have the skill. Side note- I never want to hear the work “Benjamin” or see ““What.””ever again. Painful.
