Honestly was torn between a four- and five-star review for this one. I absolutely loved the book and will be recommending it (especially to my SJM girlies). Great plot, steamy romance, and lots of intrigue...I'm just still mad about the ending !! Carissa....I'm going to need pt two immediately so that I can properly process.

The Serpent and the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent is a fantasy novel that combines elements of magic and adventure. While the story has its moments of intrigue and excitement, it falls short in a few areas, resulting in a three-star rating.

One of the strengths of this book is the imaginative world-building. Broadbent creates a unique and vivid fantasy realm, with detailed descriptions that bring it to life. The magical elements in the story are also intriguing, adding an air of mystery and wonder to the narrative.

The plot of The Serpent and the Wings of Night has potential, but unfortunately, it often feels disjointed and lacks cohesion. The pacing of the story is uneven, with some sections feeling rushed while others drag on. This imbalance makes it difficult to fully engage with the plot and invest in the characters' journeys.

Speaking of characters, they are one of the weaker aspects of the book. While there are some interesting personalities introduced, they often feel underdeveloped and lack depth. It is challenging to form a strong emotional connection with them, which can hinder the reader's investment in the story.

Additionally, the writing style of The Serpent and the Wings of Night can be overly descriptive at times. While the detailed descriptions can be visually appealing, they occasionally slow down the pacing and make the reading experience feel laborious. The repetitive use of certain phrases or descriptions can also become distracting.

Despite these flaws, Broadbent's novel does have its moments of excitement and intrigue. There are some genuinely gripping scenes that keep readers engaged, and the potential for an immersive and captivating fantasy world is evident.

In conclusion, The Serpent and the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent is a fantasy novel with a creative premise and world-building. However, it falls short in terms of plot cohesion, character development, and occasionally cumbersome writing. While it may not reach its full potential, it can still provide an enjoyable read for fans of the fantasy genre who are looking for a new adventure.

Well, well, well...... what can I say.

I started this book with absolutely no expectations, as I needed to go back to fantasy after a long dive in sports romance.

This book blew my world! It was a bit difficult to get into at first, as I found it difficult remembering the names of the clans, the particularity of each of them, etc.

At the beginning I thought it was just a vampire hunger games, fun but not exceptional.

Then Raihn joined the game, and Mische with him. Then Oraya started talking about powers, which sounded a bit weird to me, she's human, do human have powers in this world? If so, why didn't they rebel to vampires using them basically as buffet dinners? This intrigued me but perplexed me at the same time, as I didn't have an explanation.

Last night I was reading the final chapters, starting from the beginning of the last trial and everything slowly clicked into place.

It was obvious
Spoiler Oraya won the competition, I mean of course.
And it was also obvious that
Spoiler she didn't want to become Vincent's Coriatae anymore after meeting Raihn, falling for him and then killing him. She was going to ask for his life.
And if the story ended there I would have been half satisfied. Yes, I enjoyed the book but it would have been predictable.

What I didn't see coming, and what makes this a 5-star book to me is what
Spoiler Rahin asked to Nyaxia. I never thought he could be an heir since he was turned, so my mind never went there. I thought his wish would have been something to do with Oraya. Like freeing her from Vicnent or even turning her.
.

And then when he
Spoiler killed Vincent and the mark turned to Oraya?
Oh man, I didn't see that coming as well. Of course,
Spoiler Vampires can have children, but since we only saw Vincent rescuing Oraya we couldn't have possibile seen it coming that he was actually her dad!!!!! And now was also obvious why she has powers!!
I want to know what happens next about this!

Well done Carissa, very well done! Now I can't wait to see what happens next.

Also Carissa, thank you for giving us Raihn, and pearls such as:

"You might destroy me anyway"

- this makes such more sense now, it wasn't only lust

"That wasn't how I'd imagined making you come for the first time"

- honestly, thank you for this one, pure lust and want, it made me shiver and blush on behalf of Oraya

The feeding scene!!!!!!!

"You don't even know, Oraya. The things I've thought about. "Want" doesn't even fucking cover it. I have a list"

- yes, please

"Don't fucking touch her"

- my second personal favourite

"Why do I care? Are you a fucking fool?"

- definitely one of my favourite

Possibly the best book I’ve read so far in this year. Incredibly addicting, fast paced, and the growth/developments throughout the months are *chefs kiss*💋  perfect perfect perfect ✨
