What a fantastic mindbender! I love how this story plays out as little nuggets of information are trailed like breadcrumbs and lead you to the ultimate conclusion. Others describe this as like a Twilight Zone episode, and I would have to agree. Reality shaking science fiction. I loved it.

Truman Show meets Make Colonialism Great Again.

Classic PKD traits are all here, the illusory reality, paranoia and being on the run. Time Out of Joint is a treat for those who love PKD, on a side note who I think is the most cinematic writer of science fiction, being adapted to mainstream visual medium than any of the others.
Time Out of Joint is not without its predecessors for inspiration in simulated reality, being introduced by the grand masters of the art, Heinlein, Bradbury etc, but I think PKD utilized it the most, with recurring successful novels based on the same premise, while of course being the most cinematic of all.

3.5 stars. Enjoyed it but the prose was so bland.

So good.
