DID NOT FINISH

Literally where the hell was this even going

Another brilliant Ruth Hogan tale spanning decades. One to snuggle and read in bed.

Love this book! Would give 5 stars but it's a bit hard to follow all the characters and time changes. But each and every character is so worth getting to know!

After reading so much praise about Ruth Hogan’s prior novels, I was happy to receive an ARC copy of Madame Burova from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

Madame Burova’s premise was intriguing. Imelda, a fortune teller, is the only woman who knows the identity of Billie’s true mother. Billie discovers that she is adopted in adulthood after her father’s premature death and sets out to uncover the secrets of her birth parents. The story switches narrations between Billie’s story and Madame Burova and the reader is left guessing if Billie will uncover her parents’ names, let alone their histories.

I appreciated the characters and setting Ruth Hogan established through the varying timelines. I particularly enjoyed the storyline set in the 1970’s on Brighton pier. The whimsy of Madame Burova’s fortune telling trade and her cast of friends was enthralling. The setting coupled with the easygoing plot established a lighthearted tone. The cast truly was the highlight of the story, so this is one to pick up if you are seeking a character driven novel with a unique group of individuals.

Not life changing but a quick and fun summer read. I grabbed this book from the library pulled in by talk of tarot cards and fortune telling. I didn’t realize it took place in England when I borrowed it from the library and that was a nice treat. Some of the characters felt unbelievable and trusted or fell in love too quickly. But I liked that the ending was a bit of a twist - not what I was expecting but I liked it!

Split between two time periods, this book covers the career of Madame Burova at its inception and currently as she prepares to retire 50 years later. Along the way, we meet a charming cast of characters that you will love meeting from Billie, who discovers she was adopted to Cillian, the motorcycle Wall of Death Rider. Slightly quirky and full of heart. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Absolutely loved this, it has the same warmth and hope of Keeper, and I was sad to finish it. Wonderful characters intertwined with some intrigue and reminiscences of 1970s Brighton, I guessed one part but not the other.
Perfect comfort read, just make yourself comfortable and get ready to escape.
