It's a pretty good looking book, very easy to read, and compiles great information on several pantheons around the world.
I love Ann Shen's style, I just wish its literary content wasn't treated as such as "merchandised", with things like "you should call for this GODDESS when you would like to paint your nails" or whatever. I think this contemporaneous syncretism is damaging towards cultures that really pray to those Supreme Beings.

Wonderful book, stunning illustrations, good variety of cultures covered. I just wish there'd be more info on each goddess. Sometimes, only one or two paragraphs. One thing positive is it made me want to learn more!

I love mythology and Legendary Ladies includes so many goddesses' stories that I hadn't heard of before. One of the wonderful messages that runs throughout this book is that the masculine does not exist without the feminine, that they are two parts of every living being here on earth. Equality, balance, strength and guidance are portrayed in each myth, and hopefully each and every reader will find at least one goddess they can connect with and be inspired to embrace their inner power.

I kind of assume all "# Females by Theme" books are going to be kid friendly girl power reads. This one... maybe wait a few extra years. Mythology is full of unpleasant things and even boiled down to a couple paragraphs per goddess, there's still some rape and castration scattered through the book.

The art is gorgeous and this book is a good starting point for an interest in mythology, but without enough on anyone to really be satisfying.

First and foremost, the art is gorgeous! That's what drew me to this book in the first place. I learned about a few more goddesses, which is always a treat. I do wish that the information provided was more in depth (or that the book itself was longer), as a lot of information was left out in some of the sections. It's a good starter source, but there's more info out there.
