So many secrets. Deep Louisiana paranormal vibes. I devoured this one. All from the POV of Grey, one of 10 "Summer Children" (a group of friends all born during the same summer). This takes place in La Cachette, Louisiana, the Psychic Capitol of the world. It was atmospheric and the pacing was perfect. This is meant for a YA/NA audience, but the content is dark and witchy. The little snippets of premonition between chapters were eery and gripping. I was on the edge of my seat in anticipation, and it got to a point where facts and truths became myths and lies. The climax was powerful, devastating, and worth the wait.

I enjoyed this book, but the second half was a little bit slow for me. I loved the ending! I would classify this as a YA Soft Urban Fantasy. Because it's a YA novel with teenagers as the main characters, it's set in modern times in a small town on the coast of Louisiana. There are 10 sixteen year olds that were born within 6 months of each other and each of them has a different ability. However, the origins or "rules" for their abilities were never fully explained or established. I will recommend this to young adult fantasy readers.

I wanted to like this book so badly, but it just wasn't it..
I didn't care about the characters or what's gonna happen.
A lot of things did not make sense, even some of the characters's choices..
Meh.

I love the swampy atmosphere. I grew up in Florida so I love reading stories that take place in southern swampy areas. I've always been interested in stories with psychic characters as well.
