An interesting read. The section on process fairness was of particular interest.

Some articles are better than others or more relevant but I found this book helpful as a frame to think about management.

It is a good crash course into Organisational Change, but does not add a lot if you already have familiarity with a topic. Some great classic articles on why change initiatives fail and why people have diffuculty changing. Reading through the book, had a few moments of "should remember this" - but for a book called "must reads" would have expected much more of those. It is a worthy refresher nontheless.

I don't know if this could be called a 'book' in all the extension of the word, but this is one of the most instructive books I've read in my life (although I haven't read that much).

It may be because before this book I barely know anything about strategy and corporate plans.
Just as the subtitle says: "If you read nothing else, read this". Absolutely.

A few of the concepts that had stuck with me:

- A strategy must include tradeoffs, to be difficult to replicate.
- The strategy is as much as what you won't do as much as you will do.
- A company vision is composed of different parts, the core something that not changes ever and the envisioned future, both things must inspire action, not as the dull and boring enunciates we think of as the 'mission' and 'vision' of the companies.
- To close the gap between a plan an the reality you need a set of actions and measures. But one of the most important actions and characteristics across high performing organizations is the ability to decide quickly and right.
- You must communicate effectively your strategy and get buy-in from every level.
- The vision of your company will help you hire the right people
- You can craft a phrase that encapsulates the essence of your strategy to help people take action quickly

I've learned much more and I hope I can write to avoid forgetting and practice what I've learned soon.

Ugh I wish I could give this a 1, but in my star ratings that’s reserved for DNFs. I read On Leadership a few years ago in a class and found it valuable, so when I felt like my life was a bit of a mess this summer I decided to read On Managing Yourself. I don’t recommend it. First of all, the articles are extremely boring and repetitive. Very “the poison for Kuzco, the poison created especially for Kuzco, Kuzco’s poison.” The articles are also extremely out of date. There’s one from the 1970s that describes workplace hierarchy in a way that today would be considered highly toxic and regressive, and while that’s the worst example, other articles have the same air. Most frustrating, however, was the fact that all of the information in this book is directed at CEOs and high-level executives. I already read On Leadership. I didn’t want On Managing Yourself For Leaders. There are some lessons that can be taken and applied to anyone, but I expected this book to be a little more directed at all people in business rather than just top leadership.

It makes you think about how well we manage ourselves and others. This book is worth the read. I found that the articles were put together rather well.

Read this for a grad school. Enjoyed most of the articles, some more applicable than others to the school environment.

I was probably too young and inexperienced to really appreciate the teachings of this book back in the day.
