Alex Rider is once again blackmailed into working with MI6. They suggest that if he doesn't work with them the Big Circle, a Chinese Triad who Alex insulted, will come after him. So he goes to Skeleton Key, which is in Cuba, and helps CIA agents Belinda Troy and Glen Carver find out what Sarvo, a Russian General, is doing with the uranium he bought from a man named the "Salesman."
This is one of my favorite Alex Rider novels. It's action packed, interesting, and fast paced. This is the first Alex Rider novel where Alex shows his feelings about growing up not knowing his parents, and now he has to pretend two CIA agents are his parents. He thinks about what his family life might have been like, and he's upset with the CIA for making him pretend two total strangers are his parents.

The framework for the story may be similar to the previous book (Alex doesn't want to be a spy anymore, but manages to get dragged into it again), but the details are different enough to make it enjoyable. Maybe I'll read one of these in non-manga form, so I can see what the writing is like. For now, though, I'm happy enough getting the plot in this quicker way.

Phew! This book yanks you to the edge of your seat from the very beginning, then hauls you to the floor, then rams you through a cement wall, drags you out the door, hurls you over the side of a cliff, then catches you at the very end saying, "Wasn't that fun?" Very intense!
