For a longer book, this was super engaging. Chris Van Dusen is one of our favorite authors. It touched on a lot of different emotions and there was a ton of elements to look at on each page.
Wonderful story of friendship, bravery, and doing the right thing. Hattie and Hudson is a fun read aloud with older kids. Recommended for k-3rd
So beautiful!!! Perfect Chris Van Dusen illustrations and a wonderful story.
What a sweet story! My 6 year old immediately said "Five stars" when we finished. The illustrations are amazing. The sweet songs in the book make it a perfect bedtime book.
I thought that this was a cute picture book. I didn't really connect with the story that much, but I can understand how great it would be for kids who are interested in myths like the Loch Ness Monster. I also think that it was a great story that exemplifies not judging someone or something before you really get to know it. It is written for an older audience due to the length and the complexity of the story. The artwork is phenomenal and was probably my favorite part of the book.
Rounded up. A young girl entices a monster up from the deep with her singing. Everyone else is scared of it. Together they come up with a plan to win everyone else over.
Chris Van Dusen has written a captivating tale of friendship between a little girl and a creature who lives at the bottom of a lake. Hattie loves to explore by canoe every day, and the song that she sings invites a curious creature to the top of the lake to discover who is doing the singing. A friendship is forged, but Hattie must find a way to save Hudson from the adults in the community who want to be rid of him.
This tale is wonderfully told, and the gouache illustrations are stunning and flawless. Van Dusen perfectly captures the emotions of the characters, as well as the beauty of the setting. Readers will appreciate Hattie's sense of adventure, her compassionate nature, and her loyalty in friendship.
This lengthy picture book is a stellar addition to any collection, and a wonderful choice for readers who are not quite ready to venture into chapter books, although they are capable of doing so.
