This one was....hard...to get through. It's a slow start and I didn't really get into it until about half way through (I persisted because my friend who lent it to me promised it was worth it). I think the biggest thing that kept throwing me was the inclusion of the novel within a novel (The Blind Assassin); I would be getting into a groove with the Chase plot and then the novel would break in and throw me.

This was a fascinating book that I enjoyed more than I thought I would. Again, it is FAR too long, and suffers from a complete disinterest in pacing, but I could analyse this for hours and constantly find something new to say. Weirdly enough, my favourite sections were the fake parts of the sci-fi book 'The Blind Assassin'...maybe I just want Atwood to write pulp sci-fi book! I can dream...
Pet Theory for this Book: Alex isn't real
Also, does anyone else see the similarities to Rebecca? Just a theory I'm working on...

Wowee! I'm astounded at how Atwood manages to weave together these 4 modes of storytelling with such effortless ease. This is such a rewarding book to read, and one that you won't be able to stop thinking about! From the opening lines, "Ten days after the war ended, my sister Laura drove a car off a bridge", 80-year-old Iris recounts for us the sequence of events throughout her and Laura's lives which led to this event. It's an incredible lamentation on grief, loss, love, deception and omission.
Moderate: Sexual assault
