I've enjoyed reading this book in the middle of a stressful week. The dogs were a big help, I believe. And so was Clark. I think, he was adorable.
The book was lengthy, yes, and the phasing is sometimes slow but I was glad to have read the characters had their own progress as the story goes on. Especially for the protagonists, Andie and Clark. Family is a little touchy topic for me, and at least this book tried to resolved that in a good way. Although I'm trying to think about Clark's struggle back home, maybe a little information would be nice as well. Then, the friendship was another topic — kind of brokenhearted of what happened but I guess some things just happens that way. Mhm, I should know.
This book is a light read even if it was stretched to 500-page book. All good.

So I gave this 3 stars because I liked it, but didn't adore it. I really loved the characters, but there was no real drama, and any that was there was resolved so neatly and quickly, with the exception of the issue with Bri and Toby. I was so excited to read this because I adored Matson's Since You've Been Gone, but I don't think Unexpected Everything is nearly as good.
4.75 stars.
I loved this book and that surprises the crap out of me. Usually, I'm not one who likes reading fluffy contemporary books especially if they're YA because wow can the drama be absolutely ridiculous. This one was a wonderful surprise. Of course, the was drama but it was just enough, it wasn't overdone. It's the same with the romance. Just the right amount to make you "awe" at certain parts. My favorite characters had to be Andie and Clark because if you read the book you'll now why. Next in line came Andie's father, Alexader Walker once he got more...comfortable with things. My least favorite character was Tobi. Just wow, but again it wasn't too over the top. This honestly was the perfect book. I did have to take off a quarter of a star because of the texting sections. I'm not sure if it was the fact that I was reading the ebook or what but the texting got a little confusing mainly when they group texted. There was one part in particular that was just really confusing and too me a little bit it figure out what was going on because of how randomly it switched between people.
All in all it was a great book and I'll recommend this to anyone who wants a nice and easy read.

It was a pretty good story, but I mainly loved that it is set in the same town as her other books! I recently read Since You’ve Been Gone and got so excited when I could recognize some things from that book in this one!!
4.5
Okay, so this book took me on quite a journey... The book put me in the worst reading slump, and it took me 10 days to read the first 100 pages. But then I found time yesterday, picked the book and forced myself to continue TUE and then I devoured the next 420 pages in two days, and LOVED them!
I mean it was very light and cute, and totally perfect for summer!
I immediatly fell in love with Clark, and him being a fantasy novelist was just so amazing, loved it! In general you really got to know all the characters, and you really followed the development of each. And she even completed the "Bri and Toby being one person thing", cause most of the time I was confused by who was whom of those two ;-)
One of the best things about this book was how the romance played a minor role. I loved all the romance in the book, but it just wasn't as important as friendship. It just felt very realistic!
And I loved Since You've Been Gone, and I was so happy to read about some of the characters again, all though it was very little!
At first I really thought this would be a book about nothing, like a girl walking dogs, hanging out with her friends, getting a boyfriend and working on her relationship with her father. And well, it was about that, but just also so much more. What makes me give this book a 4.5 rating and not a 5, is simply the very slow start. Otherwise I loved it!

I wanted to love this book as much as I have other Morgan Matson books. However, this book fell flat. The premise was great but that magic that I loved in the previous books was lacking. I felt that the entire book I was waiting for it to get really good and it never really did.
DNF. I made it to page 75 and remembered the short story collection that stole my heart and fundamentally changed me, inspiring newfound reflection with every subsequent 15 page story I read. I read the equivalent of 6 stories in length of this book and all I am feeling is irritated.
hated some decisions Andie made, but overall I really enjoyed it

Morgan Matson is so good at creating realistic depictions of teenagers and their relationships, especially realistic drama and solutions to said drama.
While I did not like this as much as I did Since You've Been Gone, it's a close second. (There's a cameo of Emily and Dawn in this book, ahhh!) I liked Emily better as a protagonist because I related to her more and I liked the playlists as well, but there were a couple of things I liked in this one better. The absent dad coming back into her life, the fluctation of the friend group. Oh, and Clark is pretty close to my ideal guy.
Overall, this was a fun read, and I didn't expect (haha) to like it as much as I did! I have Since You've Been Gone on my to-buy list, and I just might add this to it, too.
