3 star for me, but 4 or 5 stars if you ask my 2nd and 3rd grade sons.
At the end of the first book, A World Without Heroes, Jason is sent back to our world with knowledge that is vital to the rebellion back in Lyrian. Now, Jason has to find his way back to Lyrian so that he can help his friends. Once he gets back to Lyrian, Jason and his friends set off to defeat Maldor.
This is one of the most creative and original fantasy series that I've read in a long time. It's also a very tight story line. I read somewhere that Brandon Mull spent somewhere around ten years working on these books and I can see that. A lot of the books today are put together real fast and it feels like the author has no sense of where he's going to end up. In the Beyonders books, I feel like Mull has a clear and distinct destination in mind and knows how he's going to take us there. Excellent, excellent books. I highly recommend them.

I liked this one better than the first one, and I'm looking forward to the release of the third. I liked the large cast of characters and thought they were all fairly well maintained.
Wow! I enjoyed this much more than I expected. I expected to enjoy it, but since it is the second (and middle book) in the trilogy, I didn't think it would be quite as exciting as it turned out to be.
Brandon Mull did a great job of reminding me about events from the first book without spending too much time rehashing the past. And I enjoyed the fact that the hippo was used again! :)
For those who have read book one in the series, you definitely need to read this! I look forward to book three.

This book was a reread so I could actually read the third book for the first time and finish the series. Overall I still loved it like the first time I read it. It had some great action scenes, great character and plot development, fast paced, and can't wait to start reading the third book!
Buku keduanya ini padat sekali dengan petualangan dan hal-hal menakjubkan, tp rasanya seperti menikmati perca-perca dari berbagai buku fantasi lainnya yg dijahit menjadi satu. Dari perjalanan hobbit di gunung es sampai zombie nya walking dead. Dari rivendel sampai oracle-nya siapa entah. Bahkan kejar2an dng pasukan kekaisaran mengingatkanku pada seri pertama eragon. Memang sih detail2nya bagus dan rinci sehingga enak dinikmati. Plus kenakalan2 komentar Jason yang selalu kutunggu-tunggu.
Endingnya keren, membuatku ingin cepat2 meneruskan ke seri akhir trilogi ini.... *tapi aku punya banyaaaak kecemasan terhadap ramalan itu.... baaad bad feeling*

yep, boring banget di awal, tapi kesananya? well, sama sekali engga (engga juga sih). Tapi gw harus jujur, ini buku paling lama yang gw selesain. Ada yang salah sama gw? gw rasa engga. Ada yang salah sama Brandon mull? Of course not. Ini cuman masalah selera. he he he #plak
Beberapa hal yang bikin gw boring.
1. jason terlalu gampang masuk lagi ke lyrian. Kenapa ga dikasih ribuan rintangan keren semisal hujan meteor? atau dikejar-kejar polisi sebelum loncat ke mulut kuda nil? atau dikejar orang gila dan dikeroyok warga karena kasus penculikan (?) atau yeah, begitulah.
2. Apa yang dilakukan Tark memainkan alat musik di sungai? Oke, mungkin bagian ini gw ga detail bacanya. Mungkin. Soalnya, dia tahu kan kalo dia lagi diintai? so, ngapain main musik? Gw gatau, coba kasih tau gw, bagi yang tau
3. Tegangnya? Suer, gw ga ngerasa tegang banget. Mungkin sedikit, tapi yang jelas ga bikin gw pengen cepet-cepet membalik halaman karena penasaran (seperti yang dicantumkan di cover :P)
4. narasi yang terkadang bikin gw ngerasa kaya lagi belajar sejarah. Yep, dan gw ga suka sama pelajaran sejarah (Dont blame me! im just me!)
5. Balik ke nomor 4, terkadang juga gw harus baca beberapa kali biar ngerti (Please, im just human)
Oke, diantara sekian alasan yang bikin bete. Tentu aja ada beberapa alasan yang bikin hepi :DD
1. ADA ZOMBIE! HA HA HA!
2. ARAM SAMA FERRIN YANG JADI NGAKAK BANGET!
3. GW SUKA FERRIN! SERIUS! Dibanding sang tokoh utama, gw lebih suka Ferrin :D
4. Rachel!
5. Petualangan di rawa sama di hutan yang mau ketemu peramal itu. hehehe. gw suka banget!
6. masih banyak sebenernya, hahahah. Tapi gw rasa 5 cukup, biar adil (?)

I really liked it. The book could have been a lot shorter, though. Many passages could have been edited out.
But I enjoyed it. The story progressed well.
I had a hard time keeping all the characters straight since there were so many important ones at any time. The writing was good and the story was intriguing.

I honestly couldn't even tell you why I like this one so much more than the first one! But I really do. Not quite as much as I remember liking it originally, but still. I really enjoyed rereading this and I can't wait to finish up the trilogy! I can't remember anything about how this ends, which is actually very exciting.
