This is a FREAKY as hell book. I don't think I've seen a children's book that is more disturbing. Actually, I haven't read many ADULT books that are so disturbing.
Another one I don't recommend. My friend Jillian compared this to the Giving Tree, and I agree--it seems sweet and starts out in a nice direction, but something goes wrong. The message that a parent will love you all your life no matter what is really nice. But it crosses a line to clingy and creepy. I also don't like the illustrations. They are not quite realistic, and the image of the mom crawling across the floor (why is she crawling? I mean, I know the question is why is she sneaking into her adult son's house, but why is she always crawling?) is hard to shake.
I wanted to like this book--I even gave it as a gift. Because I love Robert Munsch's other books. They are clearly stories told orally that are put into writing and are great read-alouds. The Paper Bag Princess is one of my all-time favorite children's books. And I love his books that are illustrated by Michael Martchenko--great illustrations of families of color and families of mixed ethnicities.

"I'll love you forever. I'll like you for always. As long as I'm living, my baby you'll be."
My sister and I grew up never knowing if tomorrow would be our last day with our wonderful mom that has weak health. She taught us how to care for ourselves, each other, and for her and our dad. This book was a constant favorite of ours, and to this day, mom, sis, and I still say it to each other (and, of course, start bawling!). My sister and I promised mom she'd make it to old age so we could say, "I'll love you forever. I'll like you for always. As long as I'm living, my mommy you'll be" (And we do!).

Words cannot express how much I hate this book. If the mother was a real person, we would be talking about what type of mental health services she needed, not about whether or not this was a cute story or not. This is beyond a codependent relationship; this is a mother who needs help.
A quién no le gusta este libro? Muy tierno y que ayuda a que los niños se graben el mensaje de que aunque el tiempo pase mamá siempre los va a querer
I read it for a vlog where I read books recommended in the sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S. As much as this book was written with only sweet intention, it wasn’t represented in that way. It was kind of creepy.
This mother has such an unhealthy obsession with her child that she climbed the building at the age of 60, and got into his apartment from the window at night just to look at him while sleeping. I very much understand a mother’s love, I do, but this is not good.
An old lady will definitely miss her blood and flesh, and that too if she’s alone… but it really gave me chills. There is not only this one scene but so many others that freaked me out a little.
It is short and quick so you can give it a try but I won’t recommend it.

An old classic. This book has a lot of repetition that many children would love to recite with the reader. Good for preschool age through adulthood! Always a good read to refresh your memory from your childhood, or even to begin a new tradition. Love You Forever is a feel good story with a heartwarming feeling. Would recommend for any parent, preschooler, or anyone who needs an uplifting story.
