The first portion of this book was pretty difficult to get through personally. There is a LOT of focus on her struggle with "feeling fat," which becomes repetitive and hurtful as someone who is fat. There is a lot of tiptoeing into "I'm not fat, I'm beautiful!" territory, which sucks. She makes fun of herself for how much food she ate during her time in Italy, and kind of treats what is clearly an eating disorder as a casual phase. The talk about her struggle with weight and beauty ends with "And I dropped the extra pounds!"
The last 40% of this book loses this and is far better. She talks about meeting Jack Antonoff, writing Brave, writing Waitress (which hadn't premiered yet), and so on. It is infinitely more interesting than yet another essay on "and here's ANOTHER time someone called me fat."
Unfortunately a decent 40% isn't enough to save the book overall. I'm just grateful the audiobook was only 4 hours long. Still love Sara, but this book wasn't for me.

Such a fun and relatable book! I loved that in the audiobook you got to hear her sing because it really gives a whole new meaning to her lyrics. She's such a passionate and funny person, this book had me laughing and even crying at times. She was a great narrator. A solid 5 star read.
Here’s another one that you need to listen to instead of reading a physical copy! Sara Bareilles narrates her own story, singles songs throughout, and in the end you get some bonus behind the “scenes” clips from her recording session. It was a quick listen and super amazing.

If you've ever wanted to know what it would be like to sit down in your living room with Sara Bareilles and have a life chat, READ THIS BOOK. Actually, no. Get the audiobook. I listened to it and I'm so glad I got to experience it in Sara's voice. She is so much more of a goofball and an incredibly inspiring and persistent person than I knew. She comes right out and says she has no idea what she's doing and she wants that to be known because most people feel that way and we think celebrities are immune. Newsflash...they aren't. They're human. And Sara Bareilles is wonderful.

Loved everything about it. Made me love her even more. Of course I love her music, we have a very similar taste in music.
One of my favorite audiobooks! So glad I listened to it instead of reading it because SHE SINGS!!!
